The system of highways in Honduras is handled by the Office of Public Works, Transport and House of Honduras (SOPTRAVI), through the General Direction of Roads, which commissions to schedule the projects of construction and rehabilitation of the works viales, of the country. Honduras has more than 15,400 kilometres (9,600 mi) of roads. Until the year 1999, only 3,126 kilometres (1,942 mi) were paved.

The main motorway of the country is the one which extends from Port Cortés in the Caribbean to San Pedro Sula (CA-13), extending from San Pedro Sula to Tegucigalpa (CA-5), M.D.C., continuing to Nacaome and Choluteca in the south of the country, by where also crosses the road Panamericana to Nicaragua (CA-1).

Primary network

Highways in Honduras are the roads that join the main cities of the country, which have a length of 3,275 kilometres (2,035 mi).

Secondary network

They are all the roads that connect the main cities with the different villages; a road system of communication between the 18 departments of the pass. Has a length of 2,554 kilometres (1,587 mi).

Local network

They are all the streets that join to the different aldeas and villages with the primary and secondary networks. They are important for the 118 municipalities of Honduras, and have a total length of 8,214 kilometres (5,104 mi).

Tertiary network

They are the ways and roads built by private institutions like the Bottom Cafetero National, the Honduran Institute of the Cafe (IHCAFE), the Honduran Council of Forest Development (COHDEFOR), the Honduran Bottom of Social Investment (FHIS), the Office of Agriculture and Ganadería (SAG), and the municipalidades (some private companies or any organization that is neither part of the Bottom Vial nor of the Soptravi). Has a length between 7,000 and 12,000 kilometres (4,300 and 7,500 mi).

Road Panamericana

It is the longest road in the world, crossing the American continent from Alaska to the Patagonia in South America. The sector of Honduras initiates in the border The Amatillo (border with El Salvador, continuing to Nacaome, Jícaro Galán and where connects with the south Road, following way to Choluteca, Saint Frames of Columbus, and the border The Espino (Border with Nicaragua).

CA-5

South road – CA-5: it is a motorway of 100 kilometres (62 mi) in length that connects Tegucigalpa with the cities of Sabanagrande, Pespire, Jícaro Galán until arriving to Saint Lorenzo in the department of Valley.

CA-13

Road CA-13: It is a motorway pavimentada with a length of 194 kilometres (121 mi) that connects San Pedro Sula with Omoa and Port Cut, El Progreso, Cloth, The Ceiba, between other cities of the Atlantic of Honduras. Besides it Connects to Port Cortés, with Omoa, Cuyamel and Corinto (border with Guatemala).

Road The Ceiba-Trujillo: it begins in the city of The Ceiba and extends to the communities of Jutiapa, Balfate and Sabá, Tocoa, Corocito, arriving to the city of Trujillo, finalizing in Port Castilla, and has a ramification from Sabá to Olanchito and another from Corocito to Beautiful Oriental.

Road to Olancho

It connects to Tegucigalpa with Olancho. Has an extension of 250 kilometres (160 mi) of length. It visits the cities of Talanga, Guaimaca, Camp, Juticalpa, Jutiquile, Santa María of the Real and Catacamas.

Road of Orient

Road of Orient or CA-6: it begins in the city of Tegucigalpa and Nicaragua. In his route atravieza the Valley of The Zamorano, Jacaleapa, Danlí and The Paradise until arriving to the border The Hands (Border with Nicaragua). Besides it communicates with the communities of Güinope, Maraita, Morocelí, Villa of San Francisco, Yuscarán and Oropolí.

Road of Occident

Road of Occident – CA-4: it connects San Pedro Sula with the western zone and the border with Guatemala. It initiates in San Pedro Sula, extends to the Valley of Quimistán, Santa Bárbara, The Entrance, Copán Ruins, The Florido, Border with Guatemala, Santa Rosa of Copán and New Ocotepeque. It has two ramifications, one to the customs Waters hot (border with Guatemala) and another to the Customs The Poy (border with El Salvador).

Road San Pedro Sula – El Progreso

It connects San Pedro Sula with the city of El Progreso. It is a road pavimentada of four lanes that has an extension of 30 kilometres (19 mi). Road The Progress – Yoro

Road CA-4: motorway that joins to San Pedro Sula with the occident of the Honduras.

Road CA-6: motorway that joins to Tegucigalpa with the city of Danlí, The Paradise, continuing until The Hands, border with Nicaragua. Besides it joins to the departamental road 25 that connects to Valley of Angels and Cantarranas.
