Activities
HSI is noted for hosting X-treme Ability Challenge (XAC) each year in Reno, Nevada. This event demonstrates to local business leaders, elected officials, and members of the media what it is like to work from the perspective of a person with a disability. Activities include opening and closing a door while in a wheel chair, relay races and building things with a temporary impairment.
Significance
The University of Nevada has reported the direct economic impact of High Sierra Industries is over $7 million per year and employs 240 people. Taking into consideration economic linkages economic effect is estimated to be $12.4 million, and has created 293 jobs.
Merger
In 2009, High Sierra Industries merged with the Washoe Association for Retarded Citizens, and became Washoe Ability Resource Center- HSI.
