High school for environmental studies
The High School for Environmental Studies, is located in West Midtown, a neighborhood of Manhattan in New York City. The High School for Environmental Studies was once a 21st Century Fox movie studio. The school's demographics is 16% Asians, 15% Blacks, 60% Hispanics, and 9% Whites. 15% of the school's population are enrolled in Special Education and 10% are in ESL.

The school was featured on the news on September 20, 2012 when 18-year-old Theodore Beckles was stabbed to death by a group of teens at about 2:30 p.m. outside the High School for Environmental Studies on West 56th Street. All 4 of the teens from the High School for Environmental Studies have been charged with gang assault.
The school does not permit students to leave the building during their respective lunch periods and bathrooms are closed during the first and last 10 minutes of each periods.
On 3/20/2015 a 16-year-old student had brought a loaded gun (.32 caliber revolver) to the High school of Environmental Studies that was later featured on the news.
About 75% of graduates enroll in 2-year or 4-year colleges and according to the school’s Progress Report. Of those who go to college, roughly half go to CUNY, 25% to SUNY and 25% to other colleges.
