Early 2007: The temporary group, Hey! Say! 7

During a KAT-TUN spring concert on April 3, 2007, Yuya Takaki, Daiki Arioka, Ryosuke Yamada, Yuto Nakajima and Yuri Chinen were announced to be part of a new group called Hey! Say! 7. The name stands for that all members are born in the Heisei period and that the year of their formation was 2007.

Initially, the temporary status of the group was unclear, worrying a lot of fans of the Johnny's Jr's group J.J. Express as it could mean that the group was splitting up and that Yuya Takaki, Daiki Arioka and Yuto Nakajima would permanently be in this group instead.

On June 16, 2007, it was announced that Hey! Say! 7 would release "Hey! Say!" as a single on August 1, 2007, which later became Hey! Say! JUMP's single. While the A-side "Hey! Say!" was used as the second opening song for the anime Lovely Complex, the single's B-side "Bon Bon" was used as the second ending song for the same anime. The single went on to sell 120,520 copies in its first week, making the group the youngest male group to top the Oricon singles chart.

Late 2007: Debut of Hey! Say! JUMP

On September 24, 2007, the five members of Hey! Say! 7 were joined by Johnny's Jr's, Kota Yabu, Kei Inoo, Hikaru Yaotome, Keito Okamoto and past member Ryutaro Morimoto. The ten-member group was split into two sub-groups of five based on age: Hey! Say! BEST (older members) and Hey! Say! 7 (younger members).

It was also, announced, that they would make their CD debut on November 14, 2007 with "Ultra Music Power", which was used as Japan's Volleyball World Cup Relay 2007 theme song.

On December 22, 2007, Hey! Say! JUMP held their debut concert Debut Concerton Ikinari! in Tokyo Dome. They became the2008 younges group ever to perform in Tokyo Dome with the average age of 15.7 years old.

2008: First concert DVD, singles, acting activities, first tour

On April 30, they released their first ever concert DVD Hey! Say! JUMP Debut & First Concert Ikinari! in Tokyo Dome. In the same month, Yuya Takaki starred in the drama, Gokusen 3. Takaki also sang the insert song of the drama, "Oretachi no Seishun".

The group released their third single "Dreams Come True" on May 21, which topped the Oricon Chart. In July 2008 it was announced that the group's fourth new single "Your Seed" would be used as the image song for Japanese release of the animated film Kung-Fu Panda. In October 2008, the group released their fifth single and first love song, "Mayonaka no Shadow Boy", which was used as the theme song for the drama, Scrap Teacher starring members Daiki Arioka, Ryosuke Yamada, Yuto Nakajima, and Yuri Chinen.

2009-2010: JUMP No. 1, NYC, Hey! Say! 7 concert, variety shows, singles, dramas and movies

In March, Yuya Takaki returned as Yamato Ogata in the TV movie, Gokusen 3 Graduation Special '09.

After the full group's tour, Hey! Say! 7 had their first concert series as a sub unit called Hey! Say! 7 Spring Concert 09 MONKEY and the whole group embarked on another tour afterwards entitled Hey! Say! JUMP CONCERT TOUR Spring '09.

They released their second DVD Concert, Hey! Say! JUMP-ing Tour '08-'09, on April 29, 2009. That same month, the group's variety show, Jikuukan Sedai Batoru Shōwa x Heisei Sho wa Hey! Say!, began its broadcast with members Yamada and Nakajima.

On June 7, it was announced that Ryosuke Yamada and Yuri Chinen would be part of the Johnny's unit NYC Boys.

At the end of July 2009 the group started another tour that ended with their Hey! Say! JUMP TENGOKU DOME concert in the Tokyo Dome. Total concert attendance reached one million people and an official fan club was announced. In October, another variety show, Shuumatsu YY JUMPing, began airing. The group ended the year with another concert series, Hey! Say! JUMP WINTER CONCERT 09-10. In the same month, Yuya Takaki made his movie debut as Yamato Ogata in Gokusen: The Movie.

On February 24, 2010, the group released their sixth single "Hitomi no Screen" after a year and a half of touring, which topped the Oricon weekly single charts with 202,000 copies. Hey! Say! JUMP released their first album titled JUMP No. 1 on July 7, 2010. On December 15, 2010, the group released a new single with the name of "Arigatō (Sekai no Doko ni Ite mo)". It reached number one on the Oricon singles chart and sold 64,206 albums on its first day.

2011: Yan Yan JUMP, Morimoto's suspension, The Smurfs, singles and dramas

Hey! Say! JUMP and other Johnny's Jr. members are currently starring in new variety show called Yan Yan JUMP. The show- started on April 16, 2011. It begins at 6:30 JST every Saturday. The name and theme of the show are based on Yan Yan Utau Studio, a program that aired roughly 20 years previously, featuring some of the senior celebrities of Johnny & Associates.

The group was surrounded by much controversy on June 28, 2011 after the photos of Ryutaro Morimoto smoking underage were leaked. The following day, in response to the scandal, Johnny's Entertainment issued a statement of apology and planned to suspend Morimoto from all of his activities indefinitely. Following the removal of Morimoto's profile from the official Johnny & Associates website, Johnny Kitagawa himself made an official announcement on the issue. He stated that Morimoto now has ambitions to focus on studying and denied any possibility of him returning.

On June 29, 2011, the group released a new single with the name of "OVER". It peaked at number one on the Oricon singles chart on its first day with 113,554 sales. This has made it Hey! Say! JUMP's highest selling single since "Ultra Music Power" as their debut song back in 2007.

On September 21, 2011, they released their ninth single, "Magic Power". This was their first solo without Morimoto, due to the smoking scandal and suspension. "Magic Power" was used as the theme for the Japanese dub of the 3D movie The Smurfs, in which members Ryosuke Yamada and Yuri Chinen provided the voices for Clumsy Smurf and Brainy Smurf respectively.

Hikaru Yaotome was cast in Ikemen Desu Ne, alongside fellow Johnny's idol from Kis-My-Ft2, Yuta Tamamori and Taisuke Fujigaya.

2012: JUMP World, first tour in Asia, Imperial Garden Theater, singles and dramas

The group held their first tour in Asia from March to June, with a series of concerts in Taiwan, Thailand, South Korea, and Japan. It was also announced that they will be releasing their first single of the year and tenth in all, on February 22, titled "SUPER DELICATE". The single was a theme song for Risou no Musuko, in which Ryosuke Yamada stars in alongside Yuto Nakajima.

On March 15, it was announced that Hong Kong leg tour would be postponed until May and that the Bangkok tour was cancelled respectively due to unknown reason. On the 22nd, it was announced that a new musical called Johnny's World will be produced and directed by Johnny Kitagawa which would start its run at the Imperial Garden Theater during the months of November through December. Hey! Say! JUMP would be the main cast while 100 others would be making an appearance including Kis-My-Ft2, Sexy Zone, A.B.C-Z and Johnny's Jr.. Kamenashi Kazuya, Takizawa Hideaki and Domoto Koichi will be making guest appearances as well.

On April 25, almost two years since the released of their first album JUMP No. 1, the group announced that they will be releasing their second album on June 6. The album is called JUMP World and it contains their singles from "Arigatō (Sekai no Doko ni Ite mo)" onwards. In the same month, Yuya Takaki starred as Shohei Tatsunami in the TV drama, Shiritsu Bakaleya Koukou. In the same year, Takaki returned as Shohei Tatsunami in the Shiritsu Bakaleya Koko movie.

Hey! Say! JUMP kicked off their first Asian tour at the Yokohama Arena on 3 May.

At the end of 2012, it was announced that Ryosuke Yamada will be making his solo debut with the single "Mystery Virgin" on January 9, 2013. The song was first solicited to mainstream on the radio on November 30, 2012 and was available for digital download on December 26, 2012.

2013-2014: S3ART, Yamada's solo debut, LIVE With Me, shows, singles and dramas

Ryosuke Yamada made his solo debut with the single, "Mystery Virgin" in January 2013. The debut single serves as the drama theme song for the live action adaptation drama of Kindaichi Shounen no Jikenbo: Hong Kong Kowloon Treasure Murder Case. Ryosuke Yamada was cast as the 4th generation who portrays the famous hero of the series, Hajime Kindaichi. Another member of the group Daiki Arioka also appeared in the show as a supporting role. The drama was aired overseas, featuring famous cast members from Korea and Taiwan, including Wu Chun, Seungri of Big Bang, and Vivian Hsu.

On March 3, 2013 JUMP had their first Fan Meeting Event in Thailand. They also held another nationwide tour, Hey! Say! JUMP Zenkoku e JUMP Tour 2013, from April to August. Both of the singles that they release in 2013, "Come On A My House" and "Ride With Me", went to number one on the Oricon chart. "Ride With Me" was the theme song of the 2014 sequel of Ryosuke Yamada's Kindaichi Case Files (Kindaichi Shounen no Jikenbo: Gokumon Juku Satsujin Jiken).

The members continued to make appearances in various shows and dramas. Hikaru Yaotome and Daiki Arioka are now regulars on the show Hirunandesu!.

In January 2014, Hikaru Yaotome had his first drama lead role in Dark System Koi no Ouza Ketteisen, alongside fellow member Kei Inoo as a supporting cast member. The group released their single, "AinoArika", which serves as the drama's theme song. The single topped the Oricon chart.

Ryosuke Yamada portrays Hajime Kindaichi again in the drama series of Kindaichi called Kindaichi Shounen no Jikenbo Neo, alongside a fellow member, Daiki Arioka who portrays Saki Ryuji in the drama. During the same season, Yuto Nakajima had his first drama lead in Suikyu Yankees, alongside Yuya Takaki, who played Torao Kitajima. Takaki also starred in the dramas: Dr. DMAT as Kenji Komatsu and HAMU as Nanbu Hirotsugo in the same year. The group released a double A side single called "Weekender/Asu e no YELL", which serves as the theme song for both Yamada's and Nakajima's dramas. The single topped the Oricon chart.

Yuri Chinen was cast as one of the students in the drama series adaptation of Jigoku Sensei Nube, while Kei Inoo was cast in Tatakau! Shouten Girl, Keito Okamoto in the second season of First Class, and Hikaru Yaotome was cast in Do S Deka. In 2014, all members of Hey! Say! JUMP made an appearance in a drama series.

The group released their third album S3ART which went to number one on the Oricon chart the week it was released. The group embarked on an accompanying tour for the album titled Hey! Say! JUMP LIVE TOUR 2014 S3ART and a show in Tokyo Dome titled Hey! Say! JUMP LIVE With Me in TOKYO DOME.

2015: JUMPing CAR, "Chau#", Itadaki High JUMP, 24 hour television, JUMPing CARnival, "Kimi Attraction", movies and dramas

In 2015, the group started their first TV show called Itadaki High JUMP. The group also hosted another TV show called Little Tokyo Life with Johnny's WEST, another Johnny's group. They were also decided to be the main personalities of 24 Hour Television.

In March, Ryosuke Yamada made his movie debut as the hero, Shiota Nagisa, of the live action movie adaptation of the manga, Assassination Classroom. The movie topped the box office of Japan on its first opening week. Hey! Say! JUMP released a single, under the name Sensations, that serves as the image song of the movie, called "Koro Sensations". The single topped the Oricon chart.

Ryosuke Yamada was cast in another movie, called Grasshopper as Semi, a contract killer who uses a knife to take out his targets. It was released in November. Yamada was nominated as Best New Artist in the 40th Hochi Film Awards for both his portrayal in Assassination Classroom and Grasshopper. He also won the Newcomers of the Year award in the 39th Japan Academy Prize for his role in Assassination Classroom, and he won the Rookie of the Year award in the 25th Japan Movie Critics Award for his role in Grasshopper.

Daiki Arioka starred in a TV drama called Okitegami Kyoko no Biboroku, as Narikawa Nuru.

Yuto Nakajima was cast in a movie, called Pink and Gray, along with Masaki Suda which was written originally by Shigeaki Kato, released in January 2016. He also starred in a TV Movie titled Detective Ballerino, which aired on January 9, 2016.

The group also had numerous music releases, with singles "Chau#/我 I Need You" and "Kimi Attraction" and the 4th album JUMPing CAR all topped the Oricon Charts. They promoted the album with a tour titled Hey! Say! JUMP LIVE TOUR 2015 JUMPing CARnival and also collaborated with the annual Johnny's Countdown Concert during their Hey! Say! JUMP LIVE TOUR 2015 JUMPing CARnival, which was broadcast live.

JUMP also held their own 2015-2016 countdown, making them the youngest group of Johnny's Entertainment to ever hold their own countdown concert.

2016: DEAR, "Sayonara Sensation", "Maji SUNSHINE", "Fantastic Time", "Give Me Love", FNS 27Hour Festival, movies and dramas

Pink and Gray was released on January 9, 2016, with Yuto Nakajima as one of the leads. Ryosuke Yamada returns as Shiota Nagisa in the sequel of the live-action movie adaptation of Assassination Classroom titled Assassination Classroom: Graduation. Hey! Say! JUMP returned as their sub unit, Sensations, and released the single for the movie titled "Sayonara Sensation". Yuri Chinen will be starring in two movies that will be released on September 10 and October 22 respectively, namely: Cho Kosoku! Sankin Kotai Returns (sequel to Cho Kosoku! Sankin Kotai) and Kin Medal Otoko.

In movie casting related news, Yuto Nakajima was cast in the romance film Bokura no Gohan wa Ashita de Matteru as the male lead Hayama Ryota. Filming for the movie began late January 2016 in Thailand and ended at the end of February. Kei Inoo is cast in the movie adaptation of the manga Peach Girl as Okayasu Kairi. It is to be released in 2017 and also marks his first movie debut. Filming for the movie went on from late March 2016 to April 2016. Ryosuke Yamada was cast as the lead role of Edward Elric for the live-action movie adaptation of famous manga and anime Fullmetal Alchemist, which will be released in 2017. Filming began last June 2016 in Italy and wrapped up in August 2016 in Japan. Daiki Arioka was also casted in a film. He will be starring as Shunya Ezaki in the film Kodomo Tsukai, and will be joining his senpai, Takizawa Hideaki. Filming is currently underway. Yuri Chinen was revealed to be part of the movie Shinobi no Kuni, which will be released in Summer 2017, with Arashi member, Satoshi Ohno. He will be playing the role of Nobukatsu Oda. Filming started last July 2016 and ended in October 2016.

In Dramas, Yuto Nakajima starred in Nobunaga Moyu and Keiji Ballerino, both released in January. He also starred as the lead role in the Japanese Adaptation of the Korean Drama Misaeng titled HOPE. Kei Inoo also starred in the drama special for the drama Doctor X (released in July) and in Soshite, Dare mo Inaku Natta. Ryosuke Yamada was also announced to star in the Fuji Television Getsuku drama Cain and Abel. This was his first time starring in a romantic drama and his first time starring in a drama airing on Fuji Television, as all of his previous ones were aired on NTV. Filming began September 2016 and aired on October 17, 2016. He is reportedly one of the youngest actors to star in a Getsuku Drama.

Hey! Say! JUMP also released the single "Maji SUNSHINE". It topped the Oricon charts in its first week. The song was also used for the group's CM for KOSE Cosmeport Cosmetics. They were also one of the main personalities of Fuji Television's FNS 27Hour Festival, with Kei Inoo being one of the main MCs. During this, their show Itadaki High JUMP also had a first crossover with Kis-My-Ft2's show Kisumai Busaiku in which the two groups compete in various activities.

On July 27, the group released their 5th album titled DEAR and sold 141,079 copies on its first day. It landed on the #1 spot at the Oricon Weekly Album Chart. The album will be promoted with an accompanying tour that started on July 28 at the Osaka-jō Hall titled Hey! Say! JUMP LIVE TOUR 2016 DEAR.

On October 26, the group released a new single called "Fantastic Time". The title song is used as the opening theme for NTV's anime Time Bokan 24, which started on October 1, 2016.

On December 14, the group released a new single called "Give Me Love". The song is the theme song for Fuji TV's 'Getsu-9' drama Cain and Abel starring member Ryosuke Yamada, which started on October 17, 2016. It's described as a mellow R&B song that sings about life's troubles and love.

2017: "OVER THE TOP"

The title song "OVER THE TOP" has been announced as the new opening theme song for the anime タイムボカン24 (Time Bokan 24), airing on Yomiuri TV and Nippon Television networks in the January season! This single rings in 2017, the 10th year since their debut, and is bursting with a powerful message that’s a clear sign of their dedication for the future. The music is overflowing with energetic feelings and hope, connecting past, present, and future and opening up new situations. It’s the first song released by Hey! Say! JUMP in 2017.
