Herford – Minden-Lübbecke II is one of the 299 single member constituencies (German: Wahlkreis) used for the German parliament, the Bundestag. It is one of sixty four districts in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The constituency elects one representative under the mixed member proportional representation (MMP) system. Under the current constituency numbering system, it is designated as constituency 133.

Contents

In its current form, the constituency was created for the 2002 election. Since its creation, it has been won by the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) at every election. Since the 2009 election the representative has been Stefan Schwartze. He replaced Wolfgang Spanier, who had represented the constituency and its predecessor since 2002.

History and boundaries

A constituency based on the Herford district has existed since the 1949 election. For the 1998 election the Herford constituency expanded to take in two of the city of Bad Oeynhausen's eight districts and was renamed Herford – Minden-Lübbecke I. Since the 2002 election it has included the whole of Herford district and Bad Oeynhausen.
