Henrietta H. Fore on Asia Society's 60th Anniversary


Henrietta Holsman Fore (born December 9, 1948 in Chicago, IL) was the Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Director of U.S. Foreign Assistance. She was designated these positions by President George W. Bush and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, respectively, on May 7, 2007. She was confirmed by the United States Senate on November 14, 2007. Ms. Fore is distinguished as the first woman to serve as Administrator of USAID. These positions were at the rank of Deputy Secretary of State. Ms. Fore left these offices upon the conclusion of the presidency of George W. Bush on January 20, 2009. She is now the Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Holsman International.

Background

Prior to her appointments as USAID Administrator and Director of US Foreign Assistance, Fore served the Department of State as Undersecretary for Management. Prior to that she was the 37th Director of the United States Mint in the U.S. Department of Treasury between August 2001 and August 2005 serving Secretary of Treasury, Paul H. O'Neill and Secretary of Treasury John W. Snow. She had also been a Presidential Appointee for President George Herbert Walker Bush at the U.S. Agency for International Development from 1989 to 1993, first as Assistant Administrator for Private Enterprise in the U.S. Agency for International Development and then Assistant Administrator for Asia.

Fore has been unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate for five Presidential Appointments. In addition to her foreign policy experience in government service, Henrietta Fore has held leadership positions in numerous international nonprofit organizations. She is global Co-Chair of Asia Society(the first woman Co-Chair for Asia Society), Trustee of Aspen Institute, Trustee of the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Director of Clinton Bush Haiti Fund, Director of the Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy, Director of International Youth Foundation, Director of the Center for Global Development, and Director of Women's Foreign Policy Group. She is global Co-Chair of WomenCorporateDirectors. She serves on The Board of Directors of Theravance, Inc.(Nasdaq)(THRX) and Diagnostics for All.

Ms. Fore is a successful businesswoman running her own companies and serving on the boards of public corporations. She is Chairman and President of Stockton Wire Products, a manufacturer and distributor of steel products, cement additives and wire building materials for the U.S. and European construction industry. She has served on the corporate boards of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation and the Millennium Challenge Corporation. She has also served on the corporate boards of the Dexter Corporation and HSB Group, Inc., both listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

Fore has a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Wellesley College and a Master of Science degree in Public Administration from the University of Northern Colorado. She has also studied international politics at Oxford University and studied at Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

Ms. Fore serves on the Leadership Council of the Initiative for Global Development, is Co-Chair of North Africa Partnership for Economic Opportunity and Co-Chair of the Diplomatic Council for the Global Heritage Fund. She is a member of the World Economic Forum's Global Agenda Council on Poverty and Development Finance, The Economic Club of New York, Council on Foreign Relations, Committee of 200, Wellesley College Business Leadership Council, YPO/WPO, CEO, National Association of Corporate Directors, International Women's Forum, and The Metropolitan Club of Washington. Ms. Fore is a Mentor for Henry Crown Fellows of the Aspen Institute.
