Hemachandra Wijeratne (also known as Hema Wijeratne, Lofty Wijeratne was former Sri Lanka's Consul General in Turkey.

Early life and education

Hema was born to Walpola Mudalige George Hercules Wijeratne and Rosalind Maria Senanayake. His elder brother was former Cabinet Minister General Ranjan Wijeratne. He wad educated at Nalanda College, Colombo. While at school he was a keen cricketer playing for Nalanda first XI team. Hema was a fellow of Chartered Insurance Institute of United Kingdom.

Career

Wijeratne began a career as a Tea taster, holding many high positions in the tea pantation sectors of Sri Lanka. Hema was also former Chairman of Colombo Tea Traders’ Association and Director of Carson Cumberbatch & Company. Hema Wijeratne was the founder and inaugural President of The Sri Lanka Insuarance Institute.
