Help a Reporter Out (HARO) is an online service set up for journalists to quickly gather feedback from the public. It is designed to enable journalists to connect with people who have expertise or experience in particular issues, so that journalists can obtain valuable advice and quotes for stories they are covering. It was founded as a Facebook group in 2008 by Peter Shankman and was later turned into a mailing list claiming over 100,000 members. In June 2010, HARO was acquired by Vocus, Inc. In 2014, Vocus merged with Cision Inc. and HARO is now one of Cision's brands. As of 29 June 2016, the HARO "About" page claimed that the service had more than 475,000 sources and 35,000 journalists as participants.

Help A Reporter Out gives users a free and paid packages. The free package is where a user receives the HARO daily email and responds to reporters that have questions up and vice versa.
