Heiko Echter von der Leyen (born 2 June 1955) is a German physician, professor of medicine and the husband of politician Ursula von der Leyen. He is a member of the Von der Leyen family.

He was born the son of physician Ulrich von der Leyen (1918–1992) and his wife Cornelia Maria née Groth (1922–2014). After finishing his medical education at the University of Hamburg, Hanover Medical School and Stanford University, he was a faculty member at Stanford for several years He earned his Habilitation at Hanover Medical School in 1998 and was an extraordinary Professor of Internal Medicine and Experimental Cardiology at Hanover Medical School from 2002.

He became the Director of Hanover Clinical Trial Center GmbH in 2005. Hanover Clinical Trial Center (HCTC) is an academic clinical research organization located at the campus of Hanover Medical School.
