Heartlands High School is a state secondary school located in Wood Green in the London Borough of Haringey. It welcomed its first students in September 2010. The headteacher is Mr. Simon Garrill.

The project was commissioned by BSF (Building Schools for the Future), was funded by £33 million in tax-payer's money and was constructed by Wilmott Dixon. On the first day, only the South Wing was available to students and staff as the North Side was being finished.

The secondary school was declared fully open in March 2012 which was named 'Launch Day'.

HHS has since opened its Sports Hall after previously hiring Tottenham Leisure Centre and two other playgrounds: a central forum area and a North playground nearer its community entrance.

Students in Year 10 completed the school's first ever GCSE exam, AQA English Literature. The first cohort will fully finish their exams in 2015.

Academy status

In 2012, discussions were instigated to convert Heartlands to an 'academy'. Opinion was mixed, but ultimately the governors' consensus fell in favour of turning the school into an academy. The change has not affected its name, but did prompt former governor George Meehan to step down over clashes with the headteacher Simon Garrill.
