International career

Hassouneh is one of the previous players, as well as one of the previous captains of his national team. He retired internationally after his last match against Kuwait in the 2010 WAFF Championship. Although that's when he retired internationally, he actually planned on retiring from his international career before 2009, but was asked by head coach of Jordan Adnan Hamad to rejoin his national team and play in the 2011 Asian Cup qualification matches.

The international friendly match between his country Jordan and Uzbekistan at the Amman International Stadium on 13 August 2012 marked his retirement. Hassouneh gave the captain arm band to Amer Shafi and his #8 jersey to his teammate from Al-Faisaly Khalil Bani Attiah after playing the first few minutes of the match.
