UAE club Al Fujairah announced the suspension of international striker Hassan Maatouk on July 11, 2017. The Lebanese star's desire to break with the club contract came after his team failed to qualify for the UAE Arabian Gulf League and stay in UAE Division One, despite there being a year left in his contract. Maatouk said the newly appointed Argentine world cup winner Diego Maradona's coaching role was not tempting, and would rather decide what was best for him, which was to depart from the division one side. Additionally, the international striker has received several Gulf offers from the UAE, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, and may remain in the UAE where he played with several clubs.
