About
Harrison Middleton University is a non-profit private distance-learning university offering Master of Arts, Doctor of Arts, and Doctor of Education programs in the humanities. Like a handful of traditional, bricks and mortar liberal arts colleges, Harrison Middleton University focuses its scope on the teachings of the Great Books.
Harrison Middleton University is a great ideas, great works, great conversations, distance learning university that offers undergraduate and graduate education in the humanities with concentrations in imaginative literature, natural science, philosophy and religion, and social science. Harrison Middleton University promotes student-faculty scholarship through research, discussion, and the development of collaborative publications.
HMU offers a curriculum that engages students with the greatest books, ideas, authors, and events of western civilization. Students acquire knowledge from the wisdom of thirty centuries contained in the works by world-famous authors in imaginative literature, natural science, philosophy and religion, and social science. All degree programs at the university are discussion (Shared Inquiry) based; it is as if the students and Tutors are participating with the great authors in a conversation on ideas and issues that have concerned people in every epoch and cover a whole range of humanities inquiries and interests. With the guidance of an Instructional Team, students are able to design a degree program by developing the courses that meet their personal interests.
In addition to degree programs, Harrison Middleton University offers continuing education units in humanities.
Harrison Middleton University was founded in 1998. They are nationally accredited by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC), which is recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
