Han Chiang College (韩江学院) is a non-profit, private college in Penang, Malaysia. Established in July 1999, Han Chiang College is a not-for-profit institution of higher learning.

On 2 December 2014, Han Chiang received a formal approval from the Ministry of Education Malaysia for it to be upgraded to a university college. Efforts are underway by Management of the College to work on this upgrading process currently.

Han Chiang College is owned by the Penang Han Chiang Associated Chinese Schools Association, a non-profit community NGO dedicated to the provision of education to the community.

Degree programmes

The college collaborate with University of Wolverhampton, UK, and University of Southern Queensland, Australia to offer franchise ("3+0") degree programmes. The degree programmes are BA (Hons) Business Management from the University of Wolverhampton, and Bachelor of Communication from the University of Southern Queensland.

Malaysian students with STPM or overseas students with "A" Level or equivalent qualification can gain entry into the first year of study and complete the degree programme in three years at HCC. Those with SPM or GCE / IGCSE "O" Level need to complete a one-year Foundation at Han Chiang before entering the degree programmes.

Diploma programmes

Han Chiang provides two-and-a-half year diploma programmes to high school graduates which include Accounting, Broadcast Journalism, Business Management, Chinese Studies, Logistics Management, Mass Communication, and Multimedia Communication Design.

Students pursuing Han Chiang's diploma programmes will undergo a 10-week internship where they are attached to organisations related to their fields of study.

Classroom teaching is complemented with hands-on exposure where students undertake projects for corporate clients. Facilities include Han Chiang TV's Studio, News Centre, Audio Studio, Creative Studio, computer and multimedia labs, editing suites and editorial rooms.

Vocational programmes

Han Chiang offers Malaysian Skills Certificate (Malay: Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia) for Professional Automotive Technician programme in collaboration with South Essex College, UK & City & Guilds, UK.

Rankings and awards

Han Chiang College was awarded 5-star (Excellent) rating for the overall college-based category in MyQUEST 2012/13 and 2014/15. MyQUEST is the ranking system for private colleges that is provided by the Malaysian Ministry of Education.

On 30 April 2013 Han Chiang Collge received the in-principle approval from the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Najib Razak to be upgraded to a University College. On 2 December 2014, Han Chiang College received the formal approval from the Malaysian Ministry of Education for its upgrading to a University College status. The registration of Han Chiang University College of Communication is underway (at the time of this update on 18 Jun 2015) and it is expected to launch its own first "homegrown" degree programme by the second quarter of 2017.
