They play in Division Four of the Women's County Championship. Following relegation in the 2010 season this young team is evolving into a polished and effective, attacking side intent on a 10-0 season and promotion back to Division three

History

The first ever county match was held in 1811 between Surrey and Hampshire at Ball's Pond in Middlesex. Two noblemen underwrote the game with 1,000 guineas and its participants ranged in age from 14 to 60.

The senior ladies' team will be representing the county in the Liverpool Victoria National County Championship Division Four this season.

The recently restructured county competition means that the team will be able to commit to both their clubs and their counties without missing out on any matches as in previous seasons.

The county window consists of 10 matches of 50 over matches with an additional national 20:20 competition in which the team will progress to a final stage, should they win their regional competition first. Hampshire have performed consistently well in this competition over the past two years reaching the regional final in 2010 (narrowly losing to Wales).

The squad consists of a combination of existing players who played in last year's team and some new players who are crossing borders and re-joining from other counties to strengthen the squad and complement a batch of emerging talent from both the U15 and U17 age groups.

2010 season

The Women’s XI had a difficult year in ECB County Div 3

and will be playing their cricket in Div IV next year. Despite finishing as narrow runners-up in their Regional T20 competition, the side struggled with the longer 50 over format and failed to register a win.

Aylish Cranstone topped the batting charts with 303 runs at an average of 30.3 whilst Sarah Fogwill and Jo Harfield each contributed over 200 runs. Bowling honours went to Kerry Hartnett and Jo Harfield with 14 wickets apiece and Hannah Clark picked up 10 victims behind the stumps.

2010 marked the first occasion for the squad playing in coloured clothing, a friendly fixture against the Navy played in Portsmouth with Hampshire wearing the Navy's Scotland kit. Hampshire were victorious on this occasion.
