Halfeli (Kurdish: Xelfelî) is a belde (town) in the central district (Iğdır) of Iğdır Province, Turkey. It is situated at 39°53′N43°59′E. The distance to Iğdır is 7 kilometres (4.3 mi). The population of Halfeli is 7540 as of 2011. The settlement was founded by Halfeli tribe during the Ottoman Empire era. But after Russians captured the province after the Russo-Turkish War (1877-1878) the tribe escaped to Iran. After the province was returned to Turkey following the First World War, the tribe returned. In 1994 the settlement was declared a seat of township. The town economy depends on agriculture. The climete is milder than most other Eastern Anatolian towns and a variety of crops are harvested including cotton. Another renevue of the town is livestock trading.
