Career
Two of Hal's plays, "An Ounce of Prevention" and "Finding Donis Anne," have been widely performed (Seattle Repertory Theatre, Syracuse Stage, the Walnut Street Theatre, Westbeth, and in Atlanta, LA, Boston and Charlotte). Recent: "The Imaginary Orange," First Prize Winner, FirstStage LA, Dec. 2011, Theatre Three, Port Jefferson, NY 2012; "Executive Order 10450," Washington, DC’s Source Theatre 2011 Summer Festival; "Brush the Summer By," Adirondack Theatre Festival, Summer 2010; "A Man Who Knows How to Hold a Baby," Circus Theatricals, Los Angeles, in rep May–July; “Best of Fest,” Oct. - Nov. 2010; "ODD"*, winner, 2007 Premiere Stages Play Festival, excerpted in S&K’s Best Stage Scenes of 2008; "Legion," New Conservatory Theatre Center, SF; and "Easter Monday"*, Pendragon Theatre, Saranac Lake, NY, excerpted in Exceptional Monologues 2*. Hal has three times been Guest-Artist-in-Residence at the Theatre Artists Studio, Scottsdale, AZ, where his "Suocera" and "Mama and Jack Carew"* were performed in rep, Jan - Feb. 2011. The Studio also staged Hal’s "Peoria," "The Death Bite," and six of his 10-minute plays. Two, "1959" (2010) and "Il Nido e Bello" (2011) were finalists for the Actors Theatre of Louisville Heideman Award. Newest one-acts: "Stalking Pollyanna," LA's Eclectic Company Theatre's Hurricane Season 11; "Officer Darling," one of Santa Ana's Theatre Out Briefs in August 2011; "Treed," Theater Department, Belhaven University, Nov. 2011; "Crueler Gifts," Three Roses, LA, December 2011. He worked on the headwriting teams for two daytime serials, "All My Children" and "As the World turns" (1990 - 2001).
