Hakea mitchellii, commonly known as desert hakea, is a shrub species in the family Proteaceae. It grows to between 1 and 4 metres high and has linear to ovate leaves that are 3.5 to 10 cm long and 1 to 10 mm wide. Racemes of cream flowers appear in the leaf axils between October and January in the species native range.

The species was formally described in 1846 by Swiss botanist Carl Meissner in Prodromus Systematis Naturalis Regni Vegetabilis. The type specimen was collected near Pyramid Hill during Thomas Livingston Mitchell's 1836 expedition.

It occurs in mallee-heath vegetation in South Australia and western Victoria.
