Gus Backus (born September 12, 1937 in Southampton, Long Island, New York as Donald Edgar Backus) is a former member of the Del-Vikings. He also released a single on Carlton Records in 1958. He later became a popular singer in 1960s West Germany after he was stationed there as an Airman in the U.S. Air Force at Wiesbaden Air Base from 1957. He sang all his songs in German language and charted with 19 songs between 1960 and 1967. He landed No. 1 in German charts with his song Der Mann im Mond (The Man in the Moon) in 1961.
