Guachois a 1954 Argentine film, directed by Lucas Demare , starring Tita Merello and Carlos Cores. Released in Buenos Aires on July 7 , 1954. The Film won five awards, including the best director of the year, from the Association of Film Chroniclers , and the best film of the year from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, in 1955. The exteriors of the film were filmed in Puerto Montt , in southern Chile. It is also known as The punishment of the southern seas.

Plot

A woman ( Tita Merello ), married to a sailor (Carlos Cores), must raise her own child and also the one her husband had before with another woman. Both the childrens are growing differently: the one they had together is weak and the one they had with the other woman is strong.

The woman is then inclined to claim the motherhood of the strong child, changing the identities of both. But it happens that her own biological son, whom she presented as "the other", dies in a shipwreck. The mother's guilt then leads her to suicide.
