History

The company was founded in August 2010 in Munich (Germany) by Tobias Stepan. In September 2011 the grouptime app was officially launched for devices with Apple`s iOS. In 2012 several updates of the app were released to improve group messaging and sharing of digital content. In May 2013 grouptime launched custom fonts and themes for its app to allow users to send more personal messages. In March 2014 grouptime launched a secure enterprise messaging app called Teamwire to simplify and improve the internal communication. The idea was to provide an enterprise app purely for business messaging, which started to take over from email and become the dominant channel for team communication. By mid of 2014 grouptime abandoned its consumer product and completely focussed on the enterprise messaging market. In January 2015 in addition to the cloud solution Teamwire became also available as an on-premise and private cloud deployment in order to completely fulfill the strong data protection requirements of enterprises and large corporations. In March 2016 Teamwire became a cross-platform enterprise messaging app with the release of apps for desktop devices like Windows, Mac and Linux in addition to the existing iOS and Android apps.

Innovation

The grouptime app is the first messenger that works with "Instant Posts" and thus combines Instant Messaging (real-time, direct, private) and Social Networking (status updates, photo sharing, group messaging) in order to enable users to instantly share and privately communicate with the people and groups they choose. Grouptime is the first messaging and social networking app for mobile devices, that can send messages with custom fonts and themes. The idea of the themes is to introduce "mobile postcards". Teamwire is the first enterprise messaging app for mobile devices, that fully complies with strong German and European data protection needs, and is a completely private and end-to-end encrypted solution for businesses. It is also the first messaging app with full mobile device management and enterprise mobility management support, and thus can be managed for the whole organization and ensures company-wide compliance. The desktop version is the first business messaging app that features read receipts for group chats in order to simplify the follow-up in team communications.
