The Spartans won the 2012 girl's basketball state championship under head coach Jim Justice, the billionaire businessman and, since 2017, the Governor of West Virginia who has coached the team since 2003 (and, since 2011, also coaches the boy's team). Justice intends to continue his coaching duties while Governor.
