History
During the martial law in Taiwan in early 1949, many political dissidents were imprisoned on Green Island at Taiwan Lyudao Prison by the Taiwan government. There were two prisons in the island which were built in 1951 and 1970 respectively. The prisons had become the symbol of political suppression during those times in Taiwan. In 2001, the Taiwan government opened the Green Island Human Rights Culture Park to commemorate those who had fought for Taiwan's freedom, democracy and human rights.
Architecture
The 25 hectares park consists of the Human Rights Monument, Taiwan Lyudao Prison, and the Oasis Village, which has been converted into an exhibition hall showing historical films and displays.
