The Green Earth Appeal
The Green Earth Appeal is a not for profit social enterprise that aims to use a multi pronged approach to help solve environmental and poverty issues. Started as part of Alibaba.com’s Global Startup Challenge*, it was one of seven businesses launched on the opening day of the Global Entrepreneurship Week ,16th November 2009, at the British Library in London. The event was attended by Peter Jones (entrepreneur) (of BBCs Dragons Den fame), Simon Jack, Carl Schramm the Chief Executive of the Kauffman Foundation, Emma Harrison (entrepreneur) the founder A4E and Jim O'Neill (economist) the Head of Global Economic Research at Goldman Sachs

Mission Statement
“As a partner of the United Nations Environment Programme our mission is to work with charities and NGO’s across Africa, Asia and Latin America providing food and supplying a means for rural communities to achieve economic stability through the promotion of agroforestry, while at the same time reducing the CO2 in the planet’s atmosphere.”
Initiatives
The organization works with countries in the developing world that need help to thrive economically. This is achieved through various initiatives like Food For Thought, plant 10 free trees and the free to join Carbon free dining. These initiatives encourage people to become environmentally conscious and educate them about the need for planting more trees. The main focus is on reducing the carbon footprint of people, businesses and restaurants while donating trees to some of the poorest communities in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The idea behind donating trees to these communities is to make them self sustainable.
