Green Bay Southwest High School is one of four public high schools located in Green Bay, Wisconsin, at 1331 Packerland Drive. The School has 98 faculty and 1224 students in grades 9 through 12. Southwest High School's school colors are royal blue and silver, and their mascot is the Trojan.

Academics

Nearly half of Southwest's class of 2012 attended accredited four-year colleges (49%). The school offered 14 Advanced Placement courses in 2007, with 220 AP tests taken in May 2007. Southwest has partnered with NWTC to provide a number of Technical classes at the High School. Southwest High School was ranked #13 in Wisconsin as the best overall school by Newsweek 2013. The school made the Top 20 four years running. A collaboration with NWTC in 2012 to provide credited courses in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) provides students hands on coursework in blueprint reading; welding; and robotics. Additionally, Southwest offers 60 co-curricular activities and a Music Department which has grown substantially this past decade. In 2013, the musical production of Hairspray had two sold out showings with a total attendance of more than 3,000 people. The department is a magnet for students from neighboring schools and school districts.

Sports

The track and field area, built in 2014, is covered with astroturf. It has tennis courts, baseball diamonds, and an indoor swimming pool.

  • 2013 - The girls' tennis team participated in the WIAA Division 1 Team State Tournament for an unmatched 18th time.

  • The Troyettes Dance Team at Southwest High School was started in 1985. The Troyettes perform at home soccer and football games in the fall, and basketball games in the winter/spring. The Troyettes also prepare competition pom, kick, and jazz routines that they perform at local, regional, state, and national competitions.

    The Troyettes incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation in 2004, so that donors can support the Troyettes.

    Demographics

    As of the 2010-11 school year, there were 1,304 students in attendance, including 359 seniors, 305 juniors, 314 sophomores, and 326 freshmen. The ethnic makeup of the school was 73.77% Caucasian, 9.81% American Indian, 4.52% Southeast Asian, 6.9% Black, and 4.98% Hispanic.

  • Health care reform meetings

    Southwest High School was the site of a visit by U.S. president Barack Obama on June 11, 2009, who led a town hall meeting about health care reform. At the request of members of the physical education and health staff at the school, he signed a wall in a health classroom.
