History

Gramercy was founded in 1998 by Robert Koenigsberger, Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer, who has over 29 years of experience investing in emerging markets. Koenigsberger founded Gramercy with a vision for the firm to become a global, institutional investment management firm focused on emerging markets. The firm currently manages $6 billion in assets with a team of 60-plus professionals.

    Robert S. Koenigsberger is founder, chief investment officer and the managing partner of Gramercy. Koenigsberger has 29 years of investment experience dedicated to emerging markets with a specialization in fixed income securities. Prior to founding Gramercy, Koenigsberger was a senior vice president at Lehman Brothers from 1995 to 1998, where he managed the bank’s sovereign debt restructuring group. Prior to that, he was a vice president at Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith Incorporated for three years where he traded performing and distressed emerging markets debt securities in New York, London and Hong Kong. From 1987 to 1991, he held the position of vice president at CR-P Associates, a financial advisory firm with offices in Central and South America that led sovereign debt restructurings, debt buy-backs and debt-equity swap transactions in Latin America.

    Scott Seaman is Senior Partner and Chief Operating Officer. He joined the firm in 2002. He has 32 years’ experience in business management spanning emerging markets and alternative investments. Prior to joining the firm, Seaman spent 16 years at J.P. Morgan & Co. where he held roles as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer for J.P. Morgan Fleming Asset Management’s Hedge Funds Group and Real Estate Investment Group; Manager of the Emerging Markets Strategic Planning Group at J.P. Morgan Securities Inc; head of Emerging Markets Business Analysis and Development at J.P. Morgan Securities, Inc; and a Vice President in the J.P. Morgan & Co. Audit Group.

    Robert L. "Nob" Rauch is Senior Partner and Emerging Markets Portfolio Manager. He has 36 years investment experience. Rauch oversees investment activities and the corporate investment and restructuring group of Gramercy, and is a portfolio manager for Gramercy's distressed funds. He has been or is currently involved as a leading creditor or advisor in the restructuring of numerous companies in Asia, Eastern Europe, and Latin America including Accel, Alestra, Asia Pulp and Paper, Berlian Laju Tanker, BTA Bank, Dina, Durango, Essar Steel, Far East Shipping Company, Industrias Unidas, Iusacell, Mechala, Medefin, New World Resources, Pacific Exploration & Production, San Luis, Satmex, SIDEK, Synkro, Tonon Bioenergia, Transtel, and Tristan Oil. He is chair of the Liquidity Committee. Prior to joining Gramercy in December 2000, Mr. Rauch worked with a number of other financial institutions, including The Weston Group, Lehman Brothers, CSFB, First Interstate Bancorp, and Swiss Bank Corporation. He served on the board of Satélites Mexicanos, SA de CV, the largest Mexican fixed satellite services provider, in 2006-2008. He is currently on the board of Credivalores, a Colombian consumer finance company.

    David W. Herzberg is a Senior Partner and Emerging Markets Portfolio Manager. As head of research, he has 20 years of investment and research experience. He oversees a team of experienced credit research analysts responsible for Gramercy’s emerging markets corporate investment recommendations. Mr. Herzberg is a member of the Investment Committee and chairs the weekly Corporate/Distressed Credit Meeting. Mr. Herzberg serves as one of the Co-Portfolio managers for Gramercy Distressed Opportunity Fund III, Gramercy Distressed Opportunity Fund II and Gramercy Credit Opportunities Fund. Prior to joining Gramercy in October 2002, Mr. Herzberg worked at Bear Stearns, Inc. as a Research Associate in the Global High Yield department, specializing in Latin American corporate research. From 1997 to 1998, he was a junior analyst at Caspian Securities where he covered Latin American bank equities. From 1996 to 1997, he worked at GTE Service Corporation as an Associate in its International Development training program.
