The Governors Village is a 450+ acre New Urbanism neighborhood located in Chatham County in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Governors Village consists of four residential home neighborhoods (Governors Village, Governors Park, Governors Forest, Governors Lake), 160 townhomes (Governors Village and Governors Lake Townes), 242 apartments (Camden Governors Village), and nearly 250,000 sf of commercial space. Domicile Realty is located in Governors Village and handles on site sales within the community.

Governors Village is located directly across the street from the main entrance to Governors Club, a 1,600 acre gated community with a 27 hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course that has over 1,200 single family home sites.

Business District

The original Governors Village Shopping Center opened in 2000 with the opening of Food Lion. That shopping center now includes a dry cleaners, ABC store, nail salon, Papa John's Pizza and a Subway. Shortly thereafter, RBC Bank (which is now PNC Bank) opened at the main entrance to Governors Village. A 55,000 sf two story class A office building was also built about the same time. That building, The Bold Building, is now under new ownership and attracting new companies to the neighborhood. The Bold Building has class A office suites available from 1,000 sf to 6,000 sf. The Bold Building is the corporate headquarters for Strata Solar. In 2005, a second shopping center opened in Governors Village featuring Bean & Barrel. The Bean is a coffee shop, bar and grill. The Bean serves as the neighborhood center. In addition, the shopping center now includes Village Vet, China Chef, Tarantini Italian restaurant, and Atkins Dentistry. In 2012, The Commons @ Governors Village, another commercial retail center, opened in Governors Village. The Commons features businesses Domicile Realty, Bold Construction (a local builder that has built many homes in Governors Village and Governors Club), Igloo Organic Frozen Yogurt, Governors Pharmacy (an independent pharmacy), Fantastic Sams Hair Salon and Casa Club Spanish Immersion Daycare. The Commons will have additional medical/retail space in future phases. The next building in the Commons is expected to be completed in 2015.

Recreation

The community has numerous parks, sidewalks and walking trails including a small community lake. In addition, the community is located just a few miles from Jordan Lake, a large recreation lake).

Awards

Based on its community and volunteer activities Governors Village was named “Community of the Year” for 2009 by the North Carolina Chapter of the Community Associations Institute (Mid-sized Mixed-Use division).
