The institute was affiliated with the Rajasthan Technical University. The college declared itself as a university in the new budget that has been passed by previous Government but the statement has been delayed by the present Chief Minister of Rajasthan Vasundara Raje. Those who had taken admission in the year 2013 and 2014 shall be pursuing their courses from curriculum prescribed by Rajasthan Technical University, Kota.
Government Engineering College Bikaner is a renowned institution in the field of Engineering, Management and Poletechnic education. 4000 students are presently studying in the college. College possesses 337 bighas(150 Acres) of land on which construction work has been accomplished on 3 lac square feet. College has a budget of Rs 19 crores. Net worth of college building is 1400 lacs out of which, state govt. has provided 300 lacs. 4 colleges viz. Govt. Engineering College Bikaner, Govt. College of Engineering & Technology, Govt. ECB Polytechnic and Govt. ECB ITI are running under Engineering College Bikaner society. The college runs the courses like M.Tech,B.Tech, MBA, MCA, M. Sc. (IT), BBA, BCA, Diploma and ITI.
ECB is located on 337 bigha of land on Pugal Road, Karni Industrial Area, Bikaner. Total built area is more than 200,000 sq ft (19,000 m2). Former Principal, Dr. H. P. Vyas brought new challenging ideas for students and worked on it. He looked after for each and every student . But unfortunately due to political pressure of some entities he was forced to resign. He known as "The Iron Man" of ECB. He is a former DRDO director. He worked with Dr. Kalam.
ECB runs B.Tech courses in Electronics and Communication, Electronics Instrumentation and Control, Computer Science, IT, Mechanical and Electrical (recently in civil also). Other courses includes M.Tech, MBA, MCA, DOEACC, and BCA.
Engineering College Bikaner is the top engineering college in Rajasthan as per the grade AAA provided by Career360 magazine.
History
The college was founded in November 2000 with two branches (CSE and ECE) filling a total of 120 seats. In 2002 the college introduced four new branches, with intake increasing to 390. The college now provides postgraduate courses degree in M.Tech, MBA and MCA, undergraduate courses BCA and BBA, and B.Tech degree in six branches - CSE, ECE, EE, IT, ME and EIC with a total intake of 650 students.
Programmes
ECB offers a wide variety of courses of study in engineering, sciences, management, design and humanities with a primary focus on engineering. Eight four-year undergraduate courses of study leading to the Bachelor of Technology degree. Postgraduate degrees award Master of Technology (M.Tech), Master of Science (M.Sc.), Master of Business Administration (M.B.A) and Master of Urban Planning.

More than 30 financial aid schemes are made available to students under different criteria to support institute fees and in some cases hostel accommodation as well
Requisites for enrollments
Admission to undergraduate courses of the institute is through the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) which takes into account the performance in Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)
