Goodwall

Initial release

January 7, 2014; 3 years ago (2014-01-07)

Goodwall is a social network for students that allows them to celebrate their achievements, win awards & scholarships and connect with students and universities from around the world. Students are prompted to build a professional and visually appealing profile that shows off who they are and what they have achieved in their young lives. The platform is centered around the creation of achievements on the Goodwall app, which is available on both iOS and Android.

Contents

Goodwall was founded by brothers, Omar and Taha Bawa and was launched as a website in January 2014. In 2015, it was developed into a mobile-first platform with the release of the iOS app. Goodwall SA, the company behind the platform, is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.

Mission

Goodwall’s mission is to create the most positive, inspirational community for young people to connect and get recognition for their talents and achievements.

History

The idea for Goodwall originated from End Ignorance, a blog that was created by Omar Bawa in 2012 with the goal of highlighting the various crises occurring around the world. Wanting to encourage positive deeds in response to these crises, the Bawa brothers expanded the blog into the social network that became Goodwall.

Partnerships

On Goodwall, students are offered various opportunities to develop. To this cause, Goodwall has partnered with various organizations in order to provide opportunities for its students. These include the United Nations, Youth Olympic Games and Interpeace.

Universities form a large part of the Goodwall platform. Students are suggested potential universities that would suit them based on their interests and grades and encouraged to connect with them to find out more. Among the universities that have partnered with Goodwall are King’s College London and École hôtelière de Lausanne.

Growth

Since its launch, Goodwall has grown steadily throughout the world with students from over 150 countries using the platform. As of November 2016, there are over 700,000 students from more than 50,000 schools on Goodwall. In January 2016, Goodwall SA announced $2.1 million seed round with funding coming from a group private investors led by Francis Clivaz, the co-founder of the European Council of International Schools. Other investors include Ulrich Essmann and Tim Schumachers, the co-founders of Sedo. With its growth and positive mission, Goodwall has been mentioned in, among others, the Wall Street Journal, the Huffington Post and the University Herald.
