Golia is a rural area in the Ganjam District in the state of Odishau, India. It is located in the provinces of Ghumusara and Bhanjanagar Subdivision, Odisha. It is a village in Bugudanda Tehsill located 65 kilometres (40 mi) north from Chatrapur district, 145 kilometres (90 mi) from the state capital, Bhubaneswar. Golia is famous for its large number of unique turtles, in Nelia pond, beside the Shiva Temple. Golia is 76 kilometres (47 mi) away from the silk city, Brahampur.

Climate

Golia has a tropical wet and dry climate. Summer seasons (March–July) are often in the mid 30 °C (86 °F), and maximum temperatures often exceed 40 °C (104 °F) between April and June. However, winter lows are around 10 °C (50 °F).

Demographics

As per the 2001 Census of India, the population of Golia was 4688, 2312 of which were males and 2376 were females. The literacy rate of Golia is 74.45%, higher than the National average of 74.04%. As of 2011, the total number of voters in the village was 3121. Golia is 70 km away from the Silk City, Berhampur, and 30 km away from Sugar City, Aska. It is surrounded by Polasara Tehsil to the South, JaganthaPrasad Tehsil to the North, Bellaguntha Tehsil to the West, and Bhanjanager Tehsil to the east. It is a central village for Chirikipada, Kusapali, DahaniPali, Saturusola, Mareyapali, Mala, Lembhu Bagicha, Badua. The village is very dependent on towns like Buguda, Polasara, Aska, Chatrapura, Berhampur, Purusotampur, Jaganath Prasad.

Golia is an education hub for its nearby villages starting from Mareyepoli, Kusapali and extending to Kuanala. Most of the population in the village depend greatly upon their land and gardens. Farmers are dependent on rain-fed agriculture and climate sensitive variables. Varieties of crop like rice, dal, sugar cane, oil seed, mung and biri are cultivated by the farmers of the village. People who want to make more money often leave the village for better opportunities. Industrial Cities like Surat ("The Diamond City") and Bombay("The Dream City") are two common destinations for the people of this village.
