Golden Square railway station was located on the Bendigo line. It served the southern Bendigo suburb of Golden Square. The station closed to passenger traffic on 4 October 1981, as part of the New Deal timetable for country passengers.

In September 1987, the signal box was abolished, along with the abolishment of all signals, except for one post, the disestablishment of the station as a block post, and all points spiked normal, which were removed at a later date.

Since around 1990, the Melbourne bound station building has been leased by a local radio station, while the smaller Down side building has been leased in the past. In April 2008, renovations were carried out to the Down side building, including re-stumping, and replacement of weatherboards.
