Gojōme (五城目町, Gojōme-machi) is a town located in Minamiakita District, Akita, Japan. As of August 2013, the town had an estimated population of 9,946 and a population density of 46.1 persons per km2. The total area was 214.94 km2. (The population of the town has been falling; compared to an estimate of 15,953 residents in 1980, the population was estimated at 11,057 as of July, 2010.)

Geography
Gojōme is located in coastal plains of northwestern Akita Prefecture. It is approximately 30 km north of the city of Akita.

History
The area of present-day Gojōme was part of ancient Dewa Province, dominated by the Satake clan during the Edo period, who ruled Kubota Domain under the Tokugawa shogunate. The modern village of Gojōme was created on April 1, 1889. It was elevated to town status on January 18, 1896.
