Set lists

The set lists on the tour varied, but contained largely the same songs and sometimes similar ordering. Shows were commonly opened with one of the album's opening songs – "Celestial Crown", from Age of Winters, or "The Sundering", from Gods of the Earth. Sets mainly contained songs from Gods, as a promotional tool for the album; however, there were many notable songs from Age featured, including "The Horned Goddess", "Winter's Wolves", "Iron Swan" and, most prominently, "Freya". The band also inserted the occasional cover into their sets, including Led Zeppelin's "Bring It on Home", played during closing song "Freya" at a few concerts; Kiss's "She"; and Faith No More's "Surprise! You're Dead!".

The following is the set list from the October 10, 2008 performance at Slim's in San Francisco, California. It serves well as a sample set list for the tour:

  1. "Celestial Crown"/"Barael's Blade"
  2. "The Frost-Giant's Daughter"
  3. "How Heavy This Axe"
  4. "Iron Swan"
  5. "Fire Lances of the Ancient Hyperzephyrians"
  6. "Maiden, Mother & Crone"
  7. "To Take the Black"
  8. "Freya"
  9. "The Black River"/"The White Sea"
  10. "Winter's Wolves"
  11. "She" (Kiss cover)
  12. "The Horned Goddess"

Where "Celestial Crown" was not used as the opening song, it was replaced with "The Sundering", and on rare occasions a different song such as "Iron Swan". "The Frost-Giant's Daughter", "How Heavy This Axe", "Fire Lances..." and "Maiden, Mother & Crone" were often played near the beginning or in the middle of the set. "Freya", "The Black River", "The White Sea" and "Winter's Wolves" were often included at the end; the former was often used as the closing song and the latter was sometimes used as the first song after "The Sundering". "The Horned Goddess" was, more often than not, played during the middle of the band's set. Other songs which made appearances include "Lords" and "Ebethron".

European Vacation Tour

The European Vacation Tour was a European concert tour by American heavy metal band Metallica. The tour began on May 14, 2008, ended on August 24, 2008 and included twenty-six shows played over three legs. The Sword supported the band on the second leg of the tour, which ran from July 16 to 27, 2008 and contained seven shows.

World Magnetic Tour

The World Magnetic Tour is a worldwide concert tour by American heavy metal band Metallica. The tour began on October 17, 2008 and is in support of the band's ninth studio album, Death Magnetic. The Sword have supported the band on the first three legs of the tour (in North America), from October 21, 2008 to February 1, 2009, and are due to return for the next three legs, which will be performed in Europe between February 25 and May 17, 2009.
