"God Bless Us" is a Christmas song written by the first American Idol songwriting winners Scott Krippayne and Jeff Peabody, who wrote "This Is My Now" for Jordin Sparks. God Bless Us was written in 2009. The original recorded version was performed by the band Echoing Angels and released as a digital single the same year. A second version of the song was released by Phillips, Craig & Dean in 2010. Krippayne released his own version of the song in 2012 on his Christmas album, Not So Silent Night
This is not entirely accurate as the song is included in the 1984 Christmas Carol Movie starring George C. Scott.
Background
The song was inspired by the character of Tiny Tim from A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens. While the chorus takes its inspiration from Tiny Tim's famous line, "God bless us, everyone," the verses were inspired by the words of his father, Bob Cratchit. At one point in the book, Bob comes home and tells his wife about taking Tiny Tim to church. While there, Tim told him that he hoped the people at church saw his crutches and thought of the one who made the lame to walk and the blind to see.
