Carbon emissions

About 1% of annual global greenhouse gas emissions are from Turkey.

Contents

Coal

A large part of these emissions are from coal. However, more coal fired power plants are planned.

Effects

Turkey is forecast to be more severely effected than many other regions.

Agriculture

Pine nut production has been severely reduced.

Politics

"Given the fact that a new coal-fired power plant has a minimum of 40 years of economic life, Turkey's coal rush could create an inextricable carbon lock-in."

Mitigation

Intended Nationally Determined Contributions are up to 21 percent reduction in GHG emissions from the Business as Usual (BAU) level by 2030.

Finance

The EBRD is investing.
