Synopsis

Glass Geishas follows Steph, an Englishwoman that becomes a bar hostess in Japan with the promise of gaining easy money by flirting with customers. She's told by her friends that hostessing is safe and that she won't have to perform any sort of sex. However, when she arrives, one friend has become a shell of her former self and the other, Annabel, has gone missing. Steph sets out to discover what happened to her friend, she becomes drawn into the underbelly of Roppongi, soaplands, snack bars, and no panty cafes, and into the grasp of Mama San, a woman who has worked in the sex industry all her life. As Steph's stay in Roppongi lengthens, she begins to lose sight of why she's there and realizes that she needs to find out what happened to her friend and get out before it's too late for the both of them.

Reception

The Burnley Express praised Glass Geishas, calling it "Intriguing, atmospheric and bleak".
