History
The Gerber story started in 1927, at the home of Dorothy and Daniel Gerber in Fremont, Michigan. While hand-straining solid food for 7-month-old daughter Sally, Dorothy suggested to her husband that this tedious daily task could be handled more easily at the Fremont Canning Factory, where the Gerber family business produced canned fruits and vegetables. By 1928, they had developed five products that were distributed nationwide.
In 1967, the Gerber Life Insurance Company was formed as a subsidiary of the Gerber Products Company, the goal was to further the Gerber Products tradition of quality, service and reliability in helping parents to care for their families. The reasoning was simple: Just as parents trusted their children’s nutrition to Gerber Products, Gerber Life wanted to be the company that parents trusted to help protect and achieve financial security for their families.
