Dr. Gene Lindsey is former President and CEO Emeritus of Atrius Health and Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates and a resident of Wellesley, Massachusetts. As head of an organization with more than 40 years experience as an Accountable Care Organization (ACO), Dr. Lindsey has been a leading voice in Massachusetts on healthcare reform and has led several initiatives at Atrius Health, including signing Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts' Alternative Quality Contract (AQC) and a Toyota Lean Transformation. Dr. Lindsey has been featured in numerous news articles and speaks around the United States on healthcare reform and ACOs.

Dr. Gene Lindsey assumed the position as President and CEO of Atrius Health (and Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates) in February 2008 and retired in 2013. Previously, he was Chairman of the Board of Directors for Atrius Health and Chairman of the Board of Directors for Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates. Dr. Lindsey joined Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates as a physician in 1975 and practiced cardiology and internal medicine at the Kenmore Square, Wellesley and West Roxbury practices. Dr. Lindsey holds a B.S. in chemistry from the University of South Carolina. He received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. Dr. Lindsey completed an internship, residency, and was a clinical fellow in cardiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Appointments

Dr. Lindsey holds appointments positions with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts on committees dedicated to reforming the healthcare payment and delivery system. Dr. Lindsey serves on the Advisory Committee to the Health Care Quality and Cost Council as its public member.

In 2010 he was appointed to the Committee on the Status of Payment Reform Legislation of the Health Care Quality and Cost Council by Governor Deval L. Patrick. The Committee is charged with reviewing a draft outline of legislation to implement comprehensive payment reform in Massachusetts and solicit input from interested stakeholders and experts. The goal of the committee will be to make recommendations about key decision points to the full Council to inform comprehensive payment reform legislation. [link to mass.gov]

On January 19, 2011, Dr. Lindsey was appointed by Governor Patrick to the Massachusetts Special Commission on Provider Price Reform established under Section 67 of Chapter 288 of the Acts of 2010. The Special Commission is charged to investigate the rising cost of health care insurance and the impact of reimbursement rates paid by health insurers to providers, and to examine policies aimed at enhancing competition, fairness and cost-effectiveness in the health care market though the reduction of reimbursement disparities.
