Family Salticidae Rank Species | Order Araneae | |
Gelotia lanka, is a species of spider of the genus Gelotia. It is endemic to Sri Lanka. Their hunting mechanism is somewhat different from most salticids, where G. lanka tended to lunge at prey from close range rather than leap from far range. They are also known to attack webs of other spiders with the mimicry signals by making specialised vibratory signals. Finally, resident spider killed and consumed and acquire the web. Therefore, they are not web makers for survival, instead they hung up a dead leaf on which to rest and oviposit.
