Gazi Mahabubul Alam is a professor with the "Academic Performance Enhancement Unit", University of Malaya (UM). Prior to this appointment, he was a Professor at the International Islamic University Malaysia. He has an extensive work experience not only in institutions of higher education, but also in the international development sector. He has worked in Bangladesh, the United States, the UK and Australia as well as Malaysia. He has published a significant number of articles in international peer-reviewed journals.

Birth and education

He was born in a village of Khulna District, Bangladesh. After receiving his HSC in Bangladesh, he moved to the United States for further studies. In 1999, he received his MBA in Business Research after which, he moved to the UK. In 2003, he received his MA in International Education and Development from the University of Sussex, followed by a Ph.D. in Education Policy and Administration from The University of Nottingham in 2007.

Career

Although he is an education economist, he has conducted research in Multi-disciplinary areas. He received the award for best scholar in the field of education economics from Science Digest in 2011. In addition, his paper on private higher education received the best citation award in the year of 2011. He has published a significant number of ISI/SCOPUS indexed journal articles which have been cited on many occasions. His h-index with the Web of Science is 10, and his h-index with SCOPUS is 13.

In addition to the areas of education, economics and business, Prof. Alam has published many works in the areas of physical science, climate change and ICT. He has a wide experience working as an editor for many journals with an international reputation. Under his guidance, many journals have achieved high standards and accreditation.

Prof. Alam has also been a popular speaker at seminars, symposiums, workshops, training and classes on a wide range of subjects including research methodology, manuscript writing, public and economic policy, education economics and policy, the philosophy of education, education business, Islam in Education, education management & leadership and professional development. He has been called on to serve various schools/ faculties within UM. (i.e. School of Education, School of Economics, School of Business and Management, and School of Public policy and Administration).
