Gary has a Bachelor of Arts and a Law degree and is married with 5 children.
Career

Gary Torgow is Chairman of Chemical Financial Corporation, the holding company for Chemical Bank in Midland, Michigan. Gary Torgow is also the founder and chairman of the Sterling Group, a Detroit based real-estate, investment and management company.
Sterling Group has acquired a number of Michigan landmark buildings including the The Qube, the Fort Washington Plaza, the Gateway Industrial and the Guardian Building.
Communal and civic activity
Gary is on the boards of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Jackson National Life, Community Foundation of Southeastern Michigan, Business Leaders for Michigan, Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, Downtown Detroit Partnership, and the Wayne State University Foundation. In Gary’s capacity as a vice president of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit he hosted a large gathering in support of the Federation at his home.
Gary has served as chairman of the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, the Michigan Civil Rights Commission and First Place Bank.
He has received a number of honors and awards including the NAACP Fannie Lou Hamer Award, the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit's Frank Wetsman Young Leadership Award, and the Wayne State University School of Law Outstanding Alumni Award.
He is the author of "Raising the Bar", and "Holy Warrior", and has given numerous talks and lectures throughout the country.
