Garage Matches is a Canadian serial drama television series that follows the competitors as they compete head-to-head against each other for the title of Garage Matches Champion. Each episode typically features a variety of exciting, daring, shocking, disgusting, and most importantly, entertaining competitions. The show is produced by GR Productions and airs on the CBC Network in Canada.

Contents

In August 2007 it was announced that Garage Matches will continue for a second season. The second season will consist of 10 episodes, running weekly uninterrupted by repeats.

Episode format

Episodes have a distinct structure: As a ritual to heritage, each episode starts off the same, with the Garage Matches introduction paving the way for the episode to follow. The introduction consists of a garage door opening and closing and the main characters exiting the garage, accompanied by the title of the show in black and red lettering. The hosts of each particular episode then introduce the competitors, as well as provide the viewer with a brief discussion of the events to follow. The competitions then take place, and are judged to decide a winner for each one. Once the competitions are completed, a winner is decided, and then crowned the Champion of Garage Matches. A twist has been added to season 2, which forces the losing competitor to "pay their loss dues", which is a very unpleasurable stunt, determined at the beginning of each episode. The episode then finishes with the closing credits, giving credit to all persons involved in the episode.

Online distribution

In addition to traditional terrestrial and satellite broadcasting, Garage Matches has been at the forefront of new television distribution methods. It was one of the first series issued through Apple's iTunes Store service for playback on an iPod or within the iTunes software. Since June 2007, new episodes, without commercials, have been available for viewing on the official Garage Matches website.

DVD releases

Garage Matches: Season 1 DVD was released as a widescreen single-disk DVD in Canada on October 5, 2007, the day the Garage Matches Season 1 DVD Release Party was held.

In addition to all the episodes that had aired, it also features DVD extras listed as Bonus Features such as episode highlights, behind-the-scenes footage and making-of features as well as deleted scenes, and extra bonus scenes recorded specifically for the DVD.

The "Garage Matches: Season 1 DVD" was recorded as collecting slightly over $100.00 CA in its first week of being released. The personnel involved in Garage Matches were happy with the results, and they believe it was a good method of paving the way for the second season.

Music

Garage Matches features a variety of different media genres throughout the episodes. Third Eye Blind's "Semi-Charmed Kinda Life" starts and ends the show, being the theme song for Garage Matches. Queen also contributes to each episode, having their successful single "We Are The Champions" provide a soundtrack to the awarding of the Garage Matches Championship Belt. Other songs used in Garage Matches include "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor, The Jeopardy Theme Song, "Mmm Bop" by Hanson, "Smooth" by Carlos Santana, and Children of Bodom even make an appearance! It has been announced that the theme song of season 2 is "The Boys Are Back In Town", a suitable title in relation to the position Garage Matches is in.
