Ganba no Boken (, lit. Adventures of Ganba) is a Japanese anime series that was created by Atsuo Saitoh and directed by Osamu Dezaki. Its 26 episodes were broadcast on NTV between April 7, 1975 and September 29, 1975. A first movie was released March 3, 1984. The series has been adapted into a movie, called Ganba to Kawauso no Boken (, lit. The Adventures of Ganba and Sea Otter), which was released in Japan by Tokyo Movie Shinsha on September 20, 1991. On March 4, 2003 Bandai released a puzzle and action PlayStation game called Ganba no Boken: The Puzzle Action.

Ganba, a brown rat, embarks on a journey sailing with his childhood friend. They gather mice experienced in sailing at a harbour. They encounter Chuta, a mouse which has been injured and is seeking help. He appeals for Ganba and Bobo to assist him in defending the island Yumemishima and it’s inhabitants from the invading Noroi Clan. It is revealed that the Noroi are cruel and wicked. Ganba elects to sail to Yumemishima with Chuta to help defend the island, and Ganba recruits more mice to join their cause on the island.

Ganba ()
Voiced by: Masako Nozawa The town mouse, and he calls himself "Ganbari-ya no Ganba" (, Ganba of the eager beaver ). He is always energetic, full of curiosity, and has a strong sense of justice. He takes a trip to show Bobo, his close friend, the sea, and meets Chuta in the harbour at which they arrived. Ganba and his friends are out on a journey to heed the wishes of Chuta, defeat Noroi rules Noroi Island.
Bobo ()
Voiced by: Ranko Mizuki The Ganbas best friend, and hes also town mouse. He is a glutton and an easygoing mouse. His name comes in his being absentminded.
Yoisho (, lit. yo-heave-ho)

Voiced by: Kenji Utsumi

The captain of sailor mouse. He is very dependable and has a kind heart. he is calmer than Ganba. His right eye injured by Noroi before.
Gakusha (, lit. scholar)
Voiced by: Kei Tomiyama The childhood friend of Yoisho. He has a lot of knowledgeable. he is clever, and wears big glasses.
Ikasama (, lit. swindler)
Voiced by: Junko Hori He is a gambler good at a fraud. He is also called a "swift runner" because he is light-footed.
Shijin (, lit. poet)
Voiced by: Akira Shimada The wandering doctor mouse. Every time he gets drunk, he reads poetry out.
Chuta ()
Voiced by: Hiroko Kikuchi The an insular mouse who comes to the town for help. He is a younger brother of Shioji.
Noroi (, lit. curse)
Voiced by: Chikao Otsuka The weasel of snow-white body hairand a red eyes. He is known as the one of creepiest villain in Japanese anime. he like do a violent, cruel and villainous acts. Like devil by whichs cunning and enjoys a slaughter. When his red eyes shine eery in the dark, he can apply hypnotism. He has pride in white colour.

Shioji (, lit. tideway)

Voiced by: Kazuko Yanaga

The granddaughter of the elder mouse Shuro in Yumemishima, and is an older sister of Chuta.
Toragoro ()
Voiced by: Kenichi Ogata The a traveler mouse, and is on his way to go home from ten years trip. He uses Ganba to avoid danger. He is modeled on Torajiro of "Otoko wa Tsurai yo."
Tsuburi (, lit. head)
Voiced by: Shunsuke Shima The head of the streaked shearwaters. All of his subordinates, his wives, and his eggs were slaughtered by Noroi.

Reception

In a 2006 poll of Japanese celebrities conducted by TV Asahi, Ganba no Boken was ranked as respondents 22nd favorite TV anime out of 100, beating many other series such as One Piece, Naruto, Pokemon, Evangelion, and Fullmetal Alchemist.
