Galway international arts festival 2016 highlights
The Galway International Arts Festival, founded in 1978, is a cultural organisation which produces one of Europe’s leading international arts festivals. It also produces new work that tours nationally and internationally, in addition to presenting the discussion forum, First Thought.

Our 2015 festival highlights galway international arts festival
About

The festival is one of Ireland’s leading cultural enterprises and has contributed significantly to putting Galway on the map, as both a key cultural centre for the arts and a cultural tourism destination. It has also founded and acted as a seedbed for a number of well-known and established arts organisations in Galway.
The Festival

The festival takes place in Galway, Ireland for two weeks each July. In 2016, there were over 200,000 attendances at 200 performances, talks and exhibitions in 26 venues over the 14 days. It presents and produces programmes across theatre, music, visual arts, opera, street spectacle, dance, discussion and comedy.
Touring

The organization has co-produced 11 productions that between them have won numerous awards and toured nationally and internationally to the UK, USA and Australia.
In 2017, the organisation will tour to the UK and the USA.
Music and Visual Art

Highlights from the music programme in recent years include: Elvis Costello, Suede, The National, St. Vincent, Primal Scream, Philip Glass, New York Dolls, Brian Wilson, David Byrne, Brad Mehldau, Blondie, Kronos Quartet, Brodsky Quartet and Bon Iver, while visual arts highlights include David Hockney, Bill Viola, Henri Matisse, Patricia Piccinini, Hughie O'Donoghue, David Mach and John Gerrard.
Theatre and Dance

Visiting international theatre and dance companies have included John Mahoney and Northlight Theatre, The Royal National Theatre, Propeller, The Royal Court, Steppenwolf, Fabulous Beast Dance Company, Hofesh Shechter Dance Company, Michael Clark Company, The Abbey Theatre, Druid Theatre Company and the Bristol Old Vic.
