It is sometimes called the since many soldiers come from the village who have served in the British Indian Army and have taken part in the Second World War to the Great Kargil War. One of the most famous soldiers belonging to the village is Capt. Ramrup Singh who fought during the First World War and won a gallantry award from the British Government.
Notable Personalities
Gopal Ram Gahmari, a Hindi language writer and novelist was from this village and it is claimed that he was the first writer to start writing spy literature in Hindi. He was a member of the Bhartendu Mandal. One of his works is Naye Babu which targets pseudo reformers' views of that time. Gopal Ram Gahmari's Kothi's ruins is situated near Gahmar Railway Station.
