Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management, popularly known as GITAM, was founded in 1980 by a group of intellectuals and industrialists of Andhra Pradesh led by Dr.M.V.V.S.Murthi, former Member of Parliament and philanthropist.

GITAM University established its branch in Hyderabad, India, near Rudraram village (12 km from Patancheru, Medak). The campus admitted its first batch of students in 2009.

ICRA, a rating agency, gives a national grade of "ICRA EB3 IN" and a state grade of " ICRA EB3+ AP" to the MBA program of Hyderabad Business School.

Director

Prof. N Siva Prasad obtained B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Mysore in 1975, M.Tech and PhD from IIT Madras in 1977 and 1984 respectively. He joined as a staff member in IIT Madras in 1977, worked there in different positions and served as a Professor of Mechanical Engineering till June 2014. He held many responsible administrative positions at IIT Madras, the last one being Registrar, IIT Madras.

His areas of interest are Machine Design, CAD, FEM and Computer Graphics. He has guided 31 research projects leading to PhD and MS [by Research] degrees. A few research projects are in progress. His research areas include Finite Element Analysis using linear and nonlinear methods applied to problems such as Weldments, Seals, Composites, Robotics, Mechanical Design applications. He has published over 100 papers in refereed journals and conferences. He has completed several sponsored projects and as a consultant helped a number of industries to develop their products. Currently he is principal coordinator for developing a vehicle for deep sea (6 km depth) mining. He has completed about 55 developmental projects for organizations such as BHEL, ISRO and BEL, which has led to indigenous development of components in critical applications. He has 4 patents; some of the patents are in production. He has adapted text books on Machine Design, Mechanics of Materials and Engineering Mechanics (Statics and Dynamics) published by Tata McGraw Hill Book Company. Prof. Siva Prasad is a strong believer in continuing education programmes. He has organized many programmes for college teachers and employees of industries such as Tech Mahindra, BHEL, BEML, Caterpillar, FLSmidth, GE, KCP.

He visited UK with a British Council scholarship and Germany with DAAD fellowship. He also visited US, China, Thailand and Malaysia on different occasions and in various professional capacities. He spent two years in Universiti Malaysia Sabah as a Professor. He is a member of many national committees appointed by AICTE, UGC, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers and other governmental bodies.

He is a founder member of Product Development Management Association (India) besides being a member of several other prestigious professional bodies. He served as Secretary, Association for Machines and Mechanisms for 10 years, and as an executive council member for Society for Automotive Engineers, Southern Chapter.

On superannuation from IIT Madras he joined GITAM University, Hyderabad Campus in July 2014 as Director, GITAM School of Technology. Gitam Hyderabad Director

    The Distance Education Council (DEC), New Delhi, on the recommendations of the Joint Committee of UGC-AICTE-DEC has accorded recognition to GITAM University for offering distance learning programmes from academic year 2009–10 vide letter F.No. DEC/Recog/2009/dt. 09-09-2009. The university offers 13 programmes through the distance mode.

    It has been accorded deemed university status.

    About T & P Hyderabad Campus Training and Placement Dept (T&P) was established in 2010. It functions with the coordination of Heads of the Departments, faculty, and student representatives. GITAM has intelligent and highly motivated young students who aspire to have a rewarding career in leading firms, MNC’s and well established organizations. Training & Placement Department thoroughly trains students right from the first year to deliver their best in the selection processes of reputed organizations. GITAM enjoys patronage of several Multi National Corporations. GITAM’s high standards are well-recognized by many MNCs and other companies in IT, Banking and other fields across the country drawing them to conduct campus interviews on a large scale. Campus placements enable the university to break its own record of placements every year.     Admission procedure

    Admissions into the university are based on the all India level online entrance test GAT (GITAM aptitude test), conducted in May.

    Faculty

    PhD, to start their career in the university. The faculty has industrial, research and teaching experience at national and international levels. Senior industry executives visit the campus to deliver guest lectures.

    Library

    The library (or Knowledge Resource Centre) has a collection of books, periodicals and monographs in the fields of engineering, technology, science and management. The library is divided into two wings, one for management studies and other for engineering studies.

    Digital library

    The campus contains a digital library with around 80+ computers.

    Hostels

    The campus has four hostels, two each for boys(A-Block, B-Block) and girls(A-Block, B-Block). These can accommodate 1600 students. An open gate system is maintained in hostels (only for boys). Students have to report back to hostel every day at 1900hrs or they have to report if they are going to be late.

    Transport

    The university doesn't have their own buses for transportation, they are currently taking help of TSRTC to provide transport facility for Day Scholars. There are 15 buses for the first year students and 40 for the rest of the students. The fee for the buses should be paid to the TSRTC and the university has no connection with it.

    The buses for first year students: F1 to F15. Rest of the students: S1 to S40.

    Also the university provides transport for the faculty members.

    GITAM Institute of Management, GITAM University, located at Rudraram in Medak district, organized Kibbutz 2010, a techno-management fest, in March 2010.

    Kibbutz (ki-boots), a word of Hebrew origin, denotes ‘a community settlement organized under collectivist principles' and connotes the spirit of working together as a team.

    The competitive events of the fest included Blueprint Blues (business plan presentation), In ‘Quiz' itive (quiz), Entre-prerana (entrepreneurship), Ad-X-press (advertisement designing), Tit 4 Tat (debating), Sea Program (programming and de-bugging), Chakra View (treasure hunt), Splurge (face painting), Dance-pe-Chance (dance), Dyno-Mike (singing), and Ishtyle-O-Meter (fashion show).

    About 450 students from 75 colleges across the twin cities took part in the events.

    Pramana 2k12

    It is a science and technical fest organized by the university in the first week of March 2012. On the second day of the fest, film actors Sunil and Murali Mohan were present at the culturals performed by the university students.

    On the closing third day of the fest there was a Chetan Bhagat's talk show arranged at the event.
