Parameshwara Gangadharaiah (born August 6, 1951) better known by name Dr. G. Parameshwara, is an Indian politician, President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee. and who also served as Home Minister of Karnataka from 2015 to 2017.

Early life and education

Parameshwara was born on August 6, 1951 at Gollahalli (now known as Siddartha Nagar) in Tumkur. He was born to Gangamalamma Chikkanna and Gangadharaiah Hebbalalu Mariyappa’s third child, Parameshwara has 4 siblings includes elder brother, elder sister and two younger sisters, His mother Gangamalamma C.(circ.1929 - 2004) is from Gollahalli,Tumkur. His father H. M. Gangadharaiah(1915 - 1995) is from Hebbalalu, Magadi taluk, Ramanagara District but born in Amruthuru, Kunigal, Tumkur District.

Parameshwara’s father Gangadharaiah Hebbalalu Mariyappa also known as H. M. Gangadharaiah was then a MLC, Socialist, Drawing Teacher, and was in board of directors in Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board, Dept. of Pre University Education of Govt. of Karnataka, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, Mysore University., later his father established Sri Siddhartha Education Society through the visionary of Vinoba Bhave when two met together during Bhoodan movement

His primary education was at Siddartha Nagar and Heggere, Tumkur. He went to Sri Siddhartha High School at Siddartha Nagar, which was established by his father. He joined Government Pre University College in Tumkur. After completing his Pre-University education he went on to study B.Sc. Agriculture in University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, Bangalore then M.Sc. Agriculture in the same college. He joined the National Cadet Corps (India) at an early age. He was an athlete, has a record 10.9 seconds of 100 metres race in University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, He represented Gandhi Krishi Vignana Kendra College in Inter-College/University & Karnataka state in Indian level. later he obtained PhD from Waite Agricultural Research Centre, University of Adelaide on Plant Physiology
Career
Parameshwara was an Administrative Officer in Sri Siddhartha Institute of Technology when he came back from Australia.

In mid 1988, he helped his father to establish Sri Siddhartha Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre, which was earlier rejected by Medical Council of India & Ramakrishna Hegde's Government and later Supreme Court of India gave permission to sanction Sri Siddhartha Medical College

In 1989, for inauguration of the new college Parameshwara along with then Education Minister S. M. Yahya and Mallikarjun Kharge who was then President of the Sri Siddhartha Education Society, went on to invite Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi which caught eyes on Parameshwara and made him join politics by appointing as Joint Secretary and Member of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee

Personal life
Parameshwara met Kannika Parameshwari through his friend while studying in Gandhi Krushi Vignana Kendra later married on 1982 in Tumkur as per Buddhist norms. They have a son Sean (pronounced [ˈʃɔːnˠ], shawn), Parameshwara believes in buddhism by its philosophy. Parameshwara is an art collector and artefacts picked up by him on his visits to other places.
Controversies
In 2017, following complaints of being sexually assaulted from numerous women taking part in a new year celebration in Bangalore, Dr. G. Parmeshwar blamed the victims for the incidents, making sexist remarks about their clothes and suggesting that their clothes could be the cause of their behaviour, causing a controversy.
