Band

Self-described as a funk, rock and soul experience. Fur Eel was formed in 2010 by friends Justin Sheppard and Thomas St. Onge, both guitar players and songwriters. Bass player Travis Reshaur joined the band when Sheppard, the band’s singer, sold him an amplifier, and drummer James Belle joined soon after. All four musicians are in their early 20s. Sheppard named the band Fur Eel as a play on the phrase for real. The band's influences include David Bowie, Prince, Led Zeppelin, Jamie Lidell, The Beatles, Jeff Beck, Marvin Gaye, and James Brown.

Elephant Summer

After eight months together, Fur Eel released Elephant Summer, featuring eight songs co-written by Sheppard and St. Onge that merge funk, rock and soul. In an interview with FFWD Magazine, Sheppard said the lyrics are inspired by his own personal experiences and relationships.

Songs from Elephant Summer have been featured on CBC radio as part of the "Canada Reads Soundtrack" contest, as well as CBC Radio in Winnipeg and Regina, and Regina radio station 91.3 CJTR.

Fur Eel has been selected as a featured performer at the 2012 Canadian Music Fest in March, marking the band's debut performance in Toronto.

Fur Eel is currently writing and recording its next album, which is expected to be released in the spring of 2012.
