A great number of writers, calligraphers, and artists have been regular customers in this hotel. For example, the writers and poets Fukuzawa Yukichi (the scholar who established Keio University), Natsume Sōseki, Shimazaki Toson, Iwaya Sazanami, Takeshima Hagoromo, Osaragi Jiro, Kawabata Yasunari, Satomi Ton, Yoshikawa Eiji, Hayashi Fumiko, Tamura Taijiro, and Hojo Hideji. Painters included Kawai Gyokudo and Hirafuku Hyakusui. Calligraphers and calligraphic artists included, Meikaku Kusakabe and Nakamura Randai Jr. Actors included Tsumasaburo Bando, the star of "Rickshaw Man" (Muhomatsu-no-issho).

Design & Facilities

The building is three-story wooden building consisting of nineteen rooms with different designs. Water is constantly pumped from only 100 meters under the ground. The temperature of the water is 63C, with spring water added to cool it: never adding water that has been treated.
