History

Friends of Laguna Honda (FLH) was founded in 1956 as Laguna Honda Home Volunteers, Inc. Its first projects provided Laguna Honda Hospital with 50 wheelchairs, furniture, a television, the first washer and dryer, a piano, and tools for the craft shop.

Present day

Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center (LHHRC) is the only publicly funded long-term care facility of its kind in the U.S. It is also the first LEED-certified green hospital in California.

Friends of Laguna Honda provides residents of LHHRC with ongoing programs including weekend and evening activities, such as bingo and community outings to museums, movies, restaurants and ball games. During the holiday season FLH provides gifts for every resident at Laguna Honda. Recent contributions made to LHHRC included a Yamaha piano, a touch-screen video game, 10 iPads, a MacBook Pro, and an electric video magnifier for the library.
